In 2011, Japan was in distress due to the March 11 earthquake and the subsequent Sendai tsunami. The destruction was catastrophic, and the number of victims of the cataclysm reached one and a half tens of thousands.

Many countries of the world then came to the aid of Japan by sending planes with humanitarian aid, fuel, and people to the island of Honshu. One of the largest rescue groups was the Russian one which consisted of 161 people.
